Meetup.com - a great way to make new friends

Wondered what to do in dubai when you are new. Well, look no further. Meetup is here. Yes, your one stop place to finding new friends outside the internet. Yes, real people and real conversations up close and personal. Whether you are looking for socialising, find a job, investor or doing some yoga. Meetup.com will help you find the meetup of your interest and voila. You will get whatever you are looking for in a couple of meetups.

The number of people joining Meetups is spiking right now, you just enter your area code and it suggests you the meetups happening close by. You can find one that interest you from
dining out, yoga, kick boxing, camping, entrepreneurship among others.

I attended one such meetup - Coffee ,fun, friends meetup by organiser Bambi from Pakistan. It was a big group that turned up at the Tim Hortons at Sheikh Zayed Road and it was an interesting experience for me. I like to observe people and in this meetup I met people from different walks of life.

There was an Air force pilot who had been on war duty in his home country and was sharing his experiences. There was a school teacher from Dubai who taught chemistry to students. A nurse who worked in hospital in Dubai, an arabic national who was the organiser of another meetup group for backpackers and road trips. It was a great mix of people from different walks of life.

With a vast amount of experience and with different ideas. The organiser started the event informing us about the meetup and requesting all to introduce ourselves one by one. All of the people who introduced themselves also mentioned an interesting fact about themselves. This made the introduction all the more interesting. Then the table was open for people to speak to each other, change their places and try and speak to more people.

I had a conversation with mostly all of the 20 odd people who came to the event, most of them were interested to know about my experience as a writer and how I am able to pursue my hobbies given the limited amount of time we have from our demanding work hours. One of them was a pakistani origin but born and brought up in Europe but wanted to visit India, and somehow wasnt able to get the visa. Another one was a nurse, and had no time for herself with the hectic schedule and demanding job. A meetup was the perfect stress buster for her. Some of the people were there for networking, some for promoting their products/company. Some were plain fun people looking to make more friends. It was a great two hour exchange without the usual mobile and whatsapp chats that most people get into while having their coffee. I must say that I made new friends and look forward to attending more such meetups in the future. Three cheers to Bambi!

The Deepak Puri Collection - Legacy of Photojournalism opens in Delhi at Exhibit 320

28th October, 2015 to 15th November at Delhi , Ladoo Sarai

Produced as part of Tasveer’s 10th anniversary celebrations, this exhibition includes a selection of works from thirty photographers, including internationally acclaimed seminal photojournalists such as James Nachtwey, Sebastião Salgado and Raghu Rai, to name but a few. Enabled by Deepak Puri’s generous donation to the Museum of Art and Photography (MAP, Bangalore), of one of the most important archives of 20th century journalism in the country, this exhibition will make the collection available to public view for the first time.

Representing the heart of Time Asia for a whole host of people, Deepak Puri, its iconic photo-editor for many years, was a wizard who made the impossible real, and ensured that the world saw the work of many photographic geniuses. His collection of photographs that includes the work of some of the best practitioners of the documentary aesthetic, is a sign of both friendship and gratitude to a true legend who enabled their work and touched their lives.

Bringing together a range of images made historically momentous not only by their content, but also their style, this exhibition not only re-emphasises the role of photographs as socio-historical documents, but also revisits the power of the still image and its affinity for story-telling — that cornerstone of the best of photojournalism.

Legacy of Photojournalism: The Deepak Puri Collection is a collateral event at the Delhi Photo Festival 2015. Its opening in Delhi will be accompanied by the simultaneous launch of The Tasveer Journal: Publication & Exhibition, also at Exhibit 320.

Movie Review - 'The Intern'

I recently moved to my new apartment in dubai. Let me tell you it feels good to be independent. The fun thing is that you do everything on your own. From laundry to cleaning to washing dishes, your place really keeps you motivated and happy. You get a lot of confidence and are in a more happy space. The last time, I stayed alone all by myself was in college and the experience living on your own in a country like US was so great that I ended up writing a book on it. I hope shifting here helps me finish my second novel too. Dubai has been a good experience till now. The people, the place and the life here is good. The place is a food haven for foodies like me.

My regular schedule is waking up at 6am, having my alone time doing the fun things that I like, eating healthy breakfast and then getting ready to go to office. Weekdays are hectic at work so I tend to do my things on weekends. Watching movies, meeting friends and hitting the beach keeps me busy then. Last weekend was long one due to Muharram holiday and we had a blast. Festival time is when you really miss being in India. My Cousin has just relocated from India to a job in Dubai and we went to Marina was a walk on the beach and to watch a great movie 'Intern'.

The plot is unassuming. Robert De Niro, a senior citizen, aged 70 applies for a job in a leading startup in retail and he gets the part. The movie is about his journey being assistant to the founder played by Anne Hathaway.
He's respectful, he dresses in a tie, he makes sure not to leave the office until the boss leaves, and he basically does everything better than everybody else. Meanwhile, they teach him about Facebook and fist-bumps.
He's chivalrous, he’s better organized, he's observant and sympathetic, and he knows Brooklyn way better than they do. But it mostly works because the director, Meyers uses De Niro well.

It tells you that although the new generation is really cool and has a very different approach to life at work and home. Basically, It's more practical and technologically advanced. However, there are certain old school principles and ideologies that are still relevant in the modern day world. Relationships, going by your gut, and being nice to your peers helps in being a great leader.
To be a good leader, you have to get the best from your team and if you are not clear about your goals then it will be difficult for your team to follow.

All in all, the movie was emotional and taught us that in this fast paced new generation life of the 21st century, its always good to pause, reflect a little and then take advice from your elder's on how to balance and pace yourself towards great success in life.

#100 days Happy Challenge

I know I probably should have written this post sooner but I was overworked, in a new place and feeling too lazy to write.

Yesterday, I almost felt like I had another fracture to add to my 'fractures I get because of the stupid things I do' list but luckily it was a false alarm and the pain has slowly subsided. And I can't believe that I haven't written anything on my blog for last few months. So well, here it goes.

After having gone through a Deepika Padukone type depression mode after a long relationship. I have decided that I will mention the good things and bad things that have happened to me. And be in a happy space from now- and take a #100 days Happy Challenge.
I will now start writing, feeling happy and loving myself more. Thank god last 6 months or more in depression have helped me loose oodles of weight and I hope it continues. I now want to stay happy, live independently and now that am fitter, am more self conscious and am loving my new self. I will also start doing more things myself and the one thing that I have learnt in this past year is that you have to love yourself and not be dependent on anyone at all.
I believe my parents are my gods, and if they are not happy then there is certainly something wrong that is happening.
So I take this HAPPY CHALLENGE and hope that it changes me much more than the 6 mths have. And you guys, keep an eye on the regular
posts that come up now to update you all.

Haule Haule!

Bajrangi Bhaijan Movie Review

The film delivers a very good message. Through the film, Kabir Khan shows us the noble character of the protagonist, Bajrangi. Who is a worshiper of lord hanuman. He believes in speaking the truth and helping out other people.

In today's world, simple honest human beings are considered mental! As is narrated by people throughout the film whenever Salman does a deed that is considered humanly. Well, its quite right that this is not the regular Salman Khan movie that we have seen in the recent past. But its a welcome change to see the actor Salman back with a bang. The story has all the makings of an emotional potboiler and the characters do justice with the roles. There is a bit of humor, lot of emotions and great message to people of both countries, that religion is not important, 'Being Human' is more important.

That is the real message that the film tries to give us.

Dubai- the start of a new life

Its seven in the morning and the alarm rings me awake. What a lovely day. Been two months in dubai and am loving the change. Living in delhi for the last ten years, this was a welcome change and long due. I felt I was on my own here. Away from family, it’s fun to be independent. Live my own life, my way.
At first everything seemed new. I had got a job at an IT company in dubai and the first thing that you do when you come here, is that you get an apartment and apply for your driving license. Yes, it takes a while to get a license here. Looking for an affordable Apartment is a tough thing here. Be ready to shell out two to six thousand a month depending on if you are single or with family. The cost of living has certainly gone up here and you will be lucky if you get to save some of your salary every month.

Luckily, till I get my driving license, the transport system is well in place in the city. The city is well connected with metro and buses. But being from delhi, if you don’t have a car here, you are not used to walking even to the metro station. It sure looks like a long walk the first few weeks and your legs will start killing you as you aren’t used to it. Well, that’s the thing. You got to get used to new things, adapt and overcome those feelings. The city grows on you. You can be alone and have good time being in your thoughts and your own space. After work if you want to enjoy the evenings, the variety of entertainment options and opportunities is unfathomable. What is great, as there is a great mix of people from all cultures and all walks of life. You get to interact and learn from people from all over the world who have come to dubai for earning a living.

All new migrants stay towards the southern part of the city. I am working at JLT (Jumeirah Lakes Towers) and it is one of the best places to be at. The proximity to Metro line, accessibility to all parts of the city, restaurant & shopping options and the whole community feel makes it a very lucrative area.

There is no dearth of eating options in Dubai. You name the cuisine and one can list a thousand options, like literally! The more happening joints are at DIFC. The malls are the places to shop and have a good entertaining time like the Dubai mall and Mall of emirates to name a few. Dubai is a huge tourist destination and its always great to see new faces at these malls. There are some super restaurants at the Marina area – most of them also come with beautiful views. Jumeira Beach residence has some good options. Having a few friends from college working in dubai, is always a good thing. I am learning more about the city and new places to hang out.

Since I am in sales, I get to visit corporates and meet new people. I really like the work culture here too. People are very professional and there is focus on relations and they respect time. Weekends I get to spend doing what I like to do. Taking time out for health and hobbies like food and writing is what keeps my adrenalin on a high always. Looking forward to make the city my second home.

What's your purpose in Life? (teaser for my new novel)

Life is full of twists and turns, its been months since I last heard from her. Life has not been the same. Someone inside you feels betrayed. What happened to the love that we shared, what was lacking in the years we spent together. Sharing each others good times and bad times. Being with each other and pushing each other not to fall when either of us was down. It feels so nice to be able to share your space, your feelings with someone. Marriage really helps you to connect with the other person deep down to a very emotional level.

They say marriage is like two soul's becoming one. That’s how marriage really is, it connects you to each other so deeply that you sometimes feel that the other person knows you more than you know yourself. But what do you do when the other person gets disconnected somehow. Do you try and build that love again or do you just let him/her go and if they come back they were yours and if not then they never were. It’s easy to say, but when it happens to you then you have to decide on your own. There is a lot of ego that comes into play. Then lots of people give you advice, what to do what not to do and you are finally left confused. As that time won’t come back. So you have to decide and think on your own. Was I really happy in that relationship? Was it only me who was giving and didn’t realize that the other side lacked that much interest? If it happens again and again in the five years that we spent together, then you have an idea that It just wasn’t working out.

You try and analyze, firstly you put yourself in the other person’s shoes. If I was her, why would I do such a thing. Would I have been angry had my husband reacted in this way? What would be going in my mind. Is playing a blame game the easier option. So when blame game comes in a relationship that means that outsiders opinions are becoming more important for you. You are being guided by what other's are saying, and not making your own decision.

I then thought it was over. At this time, the only thoughts that came to my mind that why only me. But its not true, we all go through these ups and downs and emotional turmoil’s in life.
We want someone to be there to listen to us, understand how we feel and at this time if your family is not there to support then you can be doomed into the world of depression.

I also realized that I was becoming more and more irritated. The fact that I was alone was really hurting me so it is important to get used to this new phase of my life.

I decided to find myself and move to a much better space. I didn’t want to be like this and show myself that I was being affected by something that wasn’t meant to be mine. I was an individual and I had my own identity.
It was very important to find myself and do what I really wanted to do.

PF Chang's food Review

PF Chang's has more than dozen outlets in UAE, the chain has outlets all over the world, I tried their famously recommended, Dynamite Shrimps, which is one of their signature starters. It was just perfect, the taste was both sweet and spicy and I ended up having a full serving. The seating is both indoor and outdoors with two floors in JBR,Walk at Dubai Marina. The service is fast and staff was courteous and although it was a friday evening and being packed to capacity, we were served well. The staff recommended the Chicken lettuce wraps and we couldn't resist trying it. The lettuce was ice frozen with shredded pieces of chicken, which was something new to try. We were given a special mix to create a dip and rolled the chicken inside the lettuce to make it a wrap. It gave a fresh feel due to the ice frozen lettuce and it had a great flavor. We also tried the Lo mein with chicken in the main course which was a great choice indeed.
Recommended to all food lovers, and yes try their Ribs for sure.

My Experience on a Bollywood film set

As they say, all the world is a stage. However, on a bollywood movie set it is a whole new experience altogether. The stage becomes a new worldly experience. And this is what I want to describe through this article. Having had an opportunity recently to be a part for shooting a scene for a new bollywood movie set to release next year, I thought I should share this experience with my readers.
What we see on the big screen at the theatre or dvd's is just a three hour movie.

The real experience is actual hard work, lots of dedication and coordination. A few glitches can cause the whole movie budget go astray and the release date go off track. The whole process of making a movie can take from 6 months to couple of years.

The movie requires any number of crew members - editors, storywriters, lyricists, cinematographers, set designers, costume designers, sound recorders - actors and hundreds of junior artist's if there are scene's demanding a lot of people. The behind the camera team is the one which has the bulk of the work including the spot boys and each person has to do his role in perfect coordination with others and that is one of the reason, that many people in the direction team have walkie talkies to connect with other members of the team.

As I reached the location on a weekday morning, I was greeted by the production team. There were lots of junior artists getting ready for the shoot. The makeup & costume team was at work, making sure every character in the painting auction scene gets a costume according to their look.
They wanted people of middle age group, so there were quite a few people required for the scene. I had already got a suit for myself as I was told by the casting director to get one. So, I was ready for the makeup part. Thankfully, the makeup was minimal and I was ready to go to the set with the rest of the artists.

The set was in a ballroom of a five star hotel in delhi. It was well lit up and you could make out that the set was ready. There were three cameras at the front. The direction team guided the artistes to their respective seats at the auction set. The direction team gave a brief to each artist about the scene that was to be shot and what role they were required to do. Many of the people in the room were excited to be a part of the film and had voluntered to come through someone in the production team. Few were familiar faces who were regular junior artistes and few of the people were from the drama club in delhi who had come on a daily wage.

It was really interesting to see so much excitement at every shot, even though many people knew they would not come in the camera frame, they did go on and do their part to the best of the ability. After, everything was ready, it was time for the lead actors to come to the set.
The mood in the crowd was of lot of excitement. They were going to see their favorite bollywood stars in front of them. Yes, some of them even hoped to get clicked with them, some wanted an autograph and thankfully there were no kids present. Otherwise, I have heard during shootings, it gets very tough for the crew members to control the crowd's,
One crew member told us, that the maximum rush he has seen has been when Salman Khan was shooting. The guy has a mass appeal. There were instances where few people on my table were discussing about the next movie shooting happening in delhi, I assumed that they must be regulars coming for these kind of shootings. Some of the people were very talkative and were blabbering throughout the scene, it helped that the shot required them to act if they were talking to each other.

Finally, the director then briefed the lead actors of what was expected from them. Soon, the director said action, and the camera was ready to roll.

After quite a few retakes, the director seemed happy with the shot. To my surprise one scene took around a couple of hours to shoot. There were three cameras and shots were taken from separate angles so they could be used by the cinematographer at the editing stage. It was very important for the director and cinematographer to be happy with the shots in order to ensure that they didn't need the scene to be re shot on another day.

This would waste another day and cost a little more to the producer. There were lot of stills that were also taken by the team. There was a lunch break and lots of tea/coffee breaks throughout the day as the direction team prepared or changed the set according to each new scene. It was a great experience to actually see how the whole process takes place. The coordination and control needs to be perfect and since it was a big production house, they were really professional about the whole thing. The set was very well organised and each detail was taken care to the full.

After all these scenes were shot, the movie would go for editing and most of the shots that would not be required would be deleted. This meant that no one was sure that they would actually come in the scene or not as they were lot of tables and lots of people. We got to know that the crew had shot for a month in Kashmir and after Delhi they were going to fly to Mumbai to complete the rest of the shoot. We were very happy to see a rising star who was now part of the direction team for the film. Yes, the 'kuch kuch hota hai' kid who said the famous dialogue in the blockbuster movie 'tusi jaa reh ho,tusi na jao' to Kajol, and we didn't miss an opportunity to get clicked.

To sum it up, a lot of hard work goes into making a movie. It is a team effort which requires a lot of coordination and patience. The crew has to stay away from home for so long and have outside food. It's such a tough experience for them and it requires a lot of hard work and dedication.

I realized that as an audience, most of us do not have an idea of what all goes into the making of a film. The fate of a film is decided in few weeks. I realized what the whole team would have gone through if the movie doesn't fare well at the box office. But then that is part of life and some movies work and some just don't. What the team can do is that they put in their best and hope that their efforts are appreciated and liked by people.

After this experience, I can say that behind the glamour, it takes a lot of hard work and commitment to be an actor. And Cut!

The truth about Massage Parlours

Prostitution has been legal in the Netherlands even since 1830, though till 1980 the law forbade profiting from prostitution. In 1988, prostitution has been recognized as a legal profession, subjecting it to the municipal regulations about the location, organization and the practice of business. In India, it is still illegal. We wonder why.

Earlier, it was tough for men to indulge in these kind of activities as massage parlours only used to advertise in leading newspapers. Media is considered to be one of the four pillars of democracy. The fourth estate is considered to be the watchdogs of the nation and the society. An example of this duplicity can be seen in the publication of advertisements, which offer massage services by hot Indian or foreign females or males at exotic locations in the most explicit language. This was pretty relevant around five years ago when there was scarcity of massage parlours.

A phone call made to one of these numbers appearing in the newspaper confirms the same.

Massage in gurgaon

Boy: Hi, I wanted to get a massage, I saw your advertisement in the papers.
Man: Yes sir, Actually we have all kinds of massage. Like body to body, happy ending or full satisfaction

Boy: I want complete satisfaction, what type of girls do you have. Dont worry about the price.
Man: Sir, we have students, models, tv actresses and also girls from russia and middle east. Price ranging from Rs. 2000 to Rs. 50,000
Boy: Models, nice. Can you whatsapp me the pictures so that i can choose.

Man: sure sir, let me add you to my list, please accept my request.

Boy: Ok, thanks will do.”

Nowadays, technology is taking the business to the next level. Massage parlours, specially in gurgaon are mushrooming and there is a new one coming up almost every week. Demand is what creates supply and it’s the need of the hour. The millennium city has tons of corporate offices and most of the people live and work in gurgaon. There is the stress of meeting deadlines, in addition to extra late night working hours and if you are a male then high stress if you are running a nuclear family. This High stress levels, whether at home or work are creating this ever expanding demand for a place to relax and soothe the nerves. Men want to be de stressed and what easier way than to go to a spa where your needs are met. Just go to groupon or some leading deal website, steal a deal and you are all set. Make your bookings and land up at the reception counter and ask what you are looking for.

Parlour’s in gurgaon have made it simple. Men just have to call and a receptionist will explain and help them decide how they can be satisfied. If you have been there once, you most probably will end up going there every week or fortnight. The charges are less, if you go there more and more. Just go and choose your masseur, give a nice tip and whisper in her ear what you are looking for. Enjoy all this in the luxury of a room inside the spa. Whether it’s legal or not, they don’t care.

Everything that happens remains there and there is no love lost. Pay the money and get relaxed.

It happens and it happens nearly everywhere in gurgaon. So next time you go to a spa and a women asks you if you want a happy ending, don’t be surprised. It’s all normal, simply business.

Rivaayat-E-Rampur at The Oberoi, Gurgaon

As part of the TWCI group, I was invited to the royal cuisine festival, Rivaayat-E-Rampur at threesixtyone, the award winning, all-day dining multi speciality cuisine restaurant at The Oberoi, Gurgaon. Multi cuisine speciality restaurant we are told, meaning that they have expert international masterchefs for each cuisine. This so as to ensure that the quality and consistency is taken care in detail. You can not expect but the best from The Oberoi’s.

Earlier, The Oberoi group, leading chain of hotels in India known for always showing the way to other chains, launched Rivaayat – The Indian Culinary Conclave, which saw experts from across the industry come together for an interactive training sessions held at the Oberoi, Gurgaon.
The Rivaayat-e-Rampur festival takes this unique culinary initiative forward. Celebrated food enthusiasts Osama Jalali and his mother Nazish Jalali unveiled rare recipes of the lost cuisine of Rampur.

As soon as we entered the restaurant with my colleagues at TWCI, we were greeted by the lovely Communications person, Ms. Mallika Gowda, for company, I readied myself for a gastronomic evening —the restaurant has a warm ambiance with both indoor and outdoor seating which looks like an island of blue with two teakwood decks extend from the restaurant over the water body offering a unique dining experience. The place is well done and gives you a spacious feel where you can relax and have a great time. It’s probably one of the largest restaurant’s in the country. While we waited for Executive Chef Ravitej Nath to join us, we were welcomed by a (rose based drink). Soon, we were in the priviliged company of the master himself, Osama Jalali and his mother. Osama is a seasoned food critic and consultant, who contributes to The Hindu along with other publications. His mother Nazish Jalali explained why it was such a tough thing for her to share her recipe with other people. It was Mr. Jalali who convinced her that ‘knowledge increases by sharing’ and now through this initiative, the Rampuri cuisine will reach all over india.

Osama also loves to work in the kitchen. He curates Awadhi, Rampuri, Shahjahani, Nizami menus with his mother for premium hotels and private Daawats. The menu for the evening started with appetisers, Osama made sure that he served us the best, and i can say that because he took utmost care to see for himself if there was anything missing from the selected Rampuri dishes that we were going to taste.
We were blown away by his hospitality. The dishes are mostly made from desi ghee so it was a big task at hand for our palette.
Rampuri cuisine is essentially a courtly cuisine. Known for its complex process and innovative creations, it has been till date one of the most evolved cuisine. Royal kitchens in Rampur were famous for using ingredients like lotus seeds, banana flower, khus ki jhad (Roots) and sandalwood to give the dishes a unique flavour. We were going to taste Rampuri rare recipes such as the Aloo gosht, Saag kofta , Taar Qorma and Hari Mirch ka Keema.

We started with appetisers both veg and non vegetarian. The Kathal ki shaami was something that was something different compared to the regular north Indian shaami. The kachche keeme ki tikiya was well prepared with good flavour and rich in taste. The main course consisted of Aloo Gosht, Khichda, Murg Korma, Urad Daal (safed), Karele ki chidiya. Being a pure non vegetarian, at first I was not trying the vegetarian items but this time I was curious to try everything as the feedback from the colleagues was amazing. I relished the Karele ki chidiya and Khichda which were out of the world. You have to taste it to believe it. I mean it had lot of ingredients and was a delight for foodies. Last but not the least, the Taar Korma, was the highlight of the evening and it very well cooked with lots of desi ghee flowing on top. It is a speciality and can be seen available in most weddings. The Flying Saucer

The one place which I think, is comparable to the much hyped DLF Cyberhub of Gurgaon is The Epicuria Mall , Nehru Place Metro Station…………Full of chic restaurants and awesome food court……….The Best and the most happening place at this mall , nowadays is The Flying Saucer Café…..from our very own Priyank Sukhija , yes again him…..Lolzz……. This place is an absolute delight no matter what time of the day you go. Big place with enormous space, both indoors as well outdoors. One of the most beautiful settings, I have seen in Delhi. The ambience is very good. Music is great with the famous Sufi nights on Wednesday and Friday. Must get there in time or book in advance to get a table for sure. Weekends are also are great here, with huge crowds. They have valet parking service available and good security checks for maintaining the decency of the place.

I was there on a Friday with friends, and to my surprise , the place was full of people…..Lovely crowd in the best of fashion………..Thank God , we booked a table in advance. Many people were standing outside to get in, but the place was fully booked. Flying Saucer Café is very popular amongst the young crowds of Delhi/NCR. The percussionist, who plays on Fridays, is awesome. Food was very good. Some of the things like the Dimsums, Grilled sole fish, Caesar salad, Pork chops, dahi kebab and yes the mushroom galauti kebab were awesome. We tried some cocktails like Cosmopolitan, Mojito, Caipiriojkas with blood orange and they were very well made. The Hookah was very good too.
The service and staff are really fast and quick. And yes they are very hospitable and courteous. Managing such big crowds is not as simple as it seems. Hats off to the management and the owners for running it so efficiently.

Cafe Xtasi & Bratwurst King food review

Got a chance, to meet this friend duo Manav Achal and Kunwar at the “The Gourmet High Street” festival in December last year. They had put up their stalls to promote and sell their lovely pizzas and hotdogs. Yes I am talking about Cafe Xtasi and Bratwurst King.
Now, they have opened up at DLF Galleria as a combo outlet selling both Hotdogs and Pizzas together. We went to try their creations again and were really impressed by the interior. Not a very big place but yes a nice and cozy hideout with interesting signages and pieces on walls. Very neatly done place.......

We tried their Formagi Pizza which is a 4 cheese pizza, Pepperoni pizza and the Meat madness which has ham, bacon, chicken, olives and much more. Oh My God what lovely flavors of wood....Yes they have a wood fired oven that makes it more special. That’s the reason they are at the number 1 spot on Zomato for Pondicherry (First outlet is in Pondicherry). I bet you would not have had a better thin crust pizza anywhere in Delhi/ Ncr.

We loved the chicken steak done with homemade Pesto as well as with the BBQ sauce. The steaks were done and presented so nicely, it felt as if I am having them in a fine dine sophisticated place.

And yes, we also tried the Hotdogs of Bratwurst King. They are serving authentic German sausages( all imported) .The Currywurst meal which they serve is a combo of a big hotdog plus a bowl of German potato salad. You can choose your bread, sausage, toppings (either 1 or all at no extra charges) and sauces too. The pork sausage (don't remember the exact name) with awesome sweet caramelized onions and bbq sauce was awesome. You can't have just one.

All in all a very good place to enjoy both Italy as well as Germany on the same platter....Very good quality product at smart pricing......Cheers to the Team Cafe Xtasi and Bratwurst King run by Manav Achal and Kunwar Ranbir Juneja.

Keep it up guys......

Cheers

Bulldogs food review

What comes to mind when you name a restaurant “Bulldogs” It’s not a regular name for a restaurant in Hauz Khas Village, Delhi. Yes, the makers really thought of an innovative name I must say. The impulse reaction is that it has something to do with hotdogs.
They have ample space and the place is spread over three floors with different styles of seating. Bed Style Lounge, Sofa Style Lounge and Casual dining with Open Terrace, Vibrant décor, good music, Big Screen, everything you need to have a good time. You say it and you have it here.
It provides the much needed stimulation and excitement for everyone and every mood.
It’s an ideal place for both hanging out with friends and enjoying nightlife with great amount of space and lovely music.

The selection of hot dogs from Big Bad Dog to Bite Sizes from 22” to 5” can delight you illimitably.
Well it’s not only that, they also have started an innovative concept of the bar meter, a drink exchange like the stock exchange. There are TV sets installed on all three floors which show live prices of liquor served, fluctuating every minute. The catch is you can buy in multiples once the price goes down for any specific liquor. And also, twice a day the market or the liquor exchange as they call it, crashes. So, all the prices come down to rock bottom, when one can buy more.

It’s something of a rage already in Hauz Khaz Village with youngsters coming in herds.
As they are serving world cuisine, so keeping high standards and maintaining taste is a little difficult in all spheres but yes overall it’s ok...There is a lot of variety in food but the drinks really need to be worked upon....

In starters we had Greek Salad which was good, Macaroni Pasta Salad was okay, Stuffed Cheese Mushroom was well done, Fish Sticks were crispy along with tartar sauce, and dahi kebab was delicious.

We tried the Shot dogs ( 5’ in size) - Veg Seekh, bacon and pork sausage and Mutton Seekh served with Coleslaw and French fries along with Margarita Pizza. We also tried Fajita Sizzler with Cottage cheese, grilled and served with corn, tortillas, salsa n sour cream with Dips-Tzatziki, hummus, along with pita bread was good to taste and well done. Desserts variety was good. We tried the Apple pie with Vanilla Ice crème which was really very good and Choco lava cake was good....

Overall, as per us, they should try and improvise the Drinks and some parts of the menu should also be taken care of...... All in all a very Hip-Hop Happening place for the youth to have fun. .... Cheers !!!

Dhaba by Claridges food review

In our gastronomic memory, dhabas aren't just eateries by the highway; they are bookmarks of unforgettable experiences. Their smoky flavors make us forget the priciest of meals in the best of fine-dining restaurants. There is nothing that can beat the satisfaction of spooning kaali dal (black lentils)into a crisp tandoori naan (Indian flat bread) — all enhanced with blobs on white butter — on a cold winter day.

Dhabas are an inseparable part of our road journeys. Fauji dhaba, Pehelwan dhaba, Sher-e-Punjab — the names line our highways and stay in our memories. The Shudh Vaishnav dhabas on pilgrim routes even take care of cultural sensibilities, offering food cooked without garlic and onion.

The origin of the dhaba is nebulous. It is said they sprouted on either side of The Grand Trunk Road and other highways during the 20th century, essentially to serve the truckers. The menu reflected the fact that most truckers came from Punjab.

Interestingly, many modern dhabas are not located on the highway…….Like the “Dhaba by Claridges”
DBC is an iconic restaurant from the “Claridges Hospitality” stable……..They serve Dhaba style food in the best of class yet in a rustic and Desi Avataar…….

Dhaba by Claridges has a branch in DLF Place Mall , Saket, which is quite a huge place compared to its other branch in cyber hub. If you are looking to take your guests, your family or your friends for ethnic Punjabi food to satisfy your palate then Dhaba by Claridges is the place to go.
The place is jam packed during lunch as well as dinner hours which explains that the food is excellent
and the people of Delhi keep craving for it again and again. No wonder that Claridges Hospitality thought of this brilliant idea of opening up their treasure to a bigger audience by expanding across Delhi NCR. After sampling cuisines of far away when we want to eat something that makes us feel at home then this is the kind of place we prefer. Dhaba by Claridges is a modern sophisticated place with interiors that are done in tune with the theme i.e. Dhaba which means rustic style eatery on the highways. But this place has been done in a rustic style with touch of modernity and class. The place has an open kitchen counter that resembles a highway dhaba. There is a truck body parked inside the premises along with innovative decor that resembles a Dhaba, like charpoys to sit and tyres hanging on the walls with Bollywood posters and paintings.

Of course, it is an ideal place for people to enjoy great Indian food, both spicy and delicious. The restaurant recently introduced its Healthy menu which promises good wholesome food in a healthy way.

We were honored to have Executive Chef Ravi Saxena join us for lunch; his passion for food could be seen in the way he spoke about his food. They use olive oil instead of ghee and reduced skimmed milk instead of cream for this special menu. The taste of the food stays amazingly the same retaining the flavors too.
First up on the New Menu were appetizers like Tandarust Tawa Fish crisped to perfection and from the regular menu we ordered the yum Mutton Seekh, Murgh Malai Tikka and the mouth melting and delicious Galauti Kebab and yes the Raan ( whole leg of lamb ) made to perfection with awesome flavors, succulent and mouth meltng meat. The galauti was fabulous with lovely flavors. We also loved the mutton champ or the rack of lamb ribs.

The first thing that each one of us ordered was the cocktails. The cocktails were named like Desi Tharras ( Country Liquor) a few on the menu that we sipped were the Gulabo, Somras,Santari and Basanti. All Dhaba versions of the famous cocktails like Bloody Mary, Long Island iced tea and vodka based drinks. They were innovative both in design and their nomenclature. They are served in small quarter bottles……. Loved them very much…..
Soon, the staff at the restaurant performed a dance on the number ‘badtameez dil’ for the customers sitting there. It was entertaining to watch them dance in sync and pretty good at that. This has become a usual practice or we can say this performance is like the DBC Anthem.

As if this wasn’t enough, the main course started to pour in. The main course included Balti meat, Amritsari Chhole, Lasooni palak, Baingan bharta, Paneer makhani and Dal Dhaba and yes the Butter Chicken. We could see the difference between the regular Dal Makhani and the Healthy menu Dal. And it was amazing to notice that the taste remained the same. Hats off to the Chef, for making such lovely preparations using less oil and fat yet making them taste so good.
The staff was courteous and it was great to chat with the Executive Director of Claridges Hospitality, Mr. Manik Kapoor on their future plans and vision. They are planning to expand to new places in Delhi soon.
The sweets were the highlight of the whole meal…. If we would have known that the desserts will be so good, we would have had a little less food but still we had the Baileys Kulfi, Gajar ka halwa, Moong dal halwa and Gulaab jamun.

We were the lucky few to savour the Pan, which they source from the very old Pan vendor located near the Claridges Hotel, Aurangzeb Road, New Delhi…..What a fabulous way to end the lovely meal !!!
Looking forward to the best of food and more such visits……

Cheers to the Team ……..

World Pizza Journey food review

Hauz Khas Village is a cluster of pubs, restros, bars. You will have plenty of options ranging from economical ones to expensive ones. Good cozy nice hang out places. Each joint is different from the other. Theme, Ambience, Concept and Cuisine. All these things are completely different and that’s what makes the place have a cluster of restaurants that are unique in their own way.

There’s now a new kid on the block selling Pizzas, and we know pizza has always been an integral part of any place serving Italian Cuisine. But their focus has been on other items as well. The restaurant that finally casts Pizzas in a lead role is “World Pizza Journey”. Prominent in its location, right near the entry of Hauz Khas Village, the place promises round the world journey through pizzas. The extensive menu features pizzas across the seven continents.

Table Tops

Beautiful Wall Decals

The main theme of this place is to put the specialty dish or the ingredients of the country on top of a pizza. So a falafel pizza will have hummus to give an authentic middle eastern, Lebanese taste. The fish and chips pizza will have tomato ketchup with French fries and tartar sauce on the side making it royally British. The interiors take you to a zone where you seem to be traveling to different countries as you eat the specialty pizzas. The interiors are characterized by whites with use of multi colored patterns in different forms. Framed images of famous landmarks hang on all the walls, and a variety of old world maps and flags are visible under the glass table tops. The most interesting one being the table with different currencies of the world under its glass table top. A number of wall clocks are synced to different time zones to bring out a new dimension. Even the restroom has been done in a peculiar manner, with vehicle registration plates stuck on the walls from all over the world.

Furniture and Vibrant Walls

Interesting Pee room
And now the main part …..The Food…..They have divided their menu into different sections depicted by the region or the country names…like…The American Dream section has slightly more familiar names like the Chicago Deep Dish Pizza called ‘The Pie’ and the Californian Thin Crust Pizza called ‘The Hollywood’; while the Italian Job section has pizza names like ‘The Italian Stallion’ and ‘Florence – The Renaissance’. Then you have options on a slightly more unconventional side like The Chilean Pizza called ‘The Santiago’ in the South American section, The Mandarin in Chinese section and the most unusual ‘The Falafel Pizza’ in the Mediterranean section. There’s a pizza from Britain called ‘The Queens Breakfast’ and the world famous ‘Pizza Peri Peri’ to add to the great variety. They serve the 12 inch thin crust pizzas on a LP record ..... innovation at its peak....Mr. Deepak Khera , who has done the menu selection, is a thoroughly professional man, with a passion towards his line of work. He has done the menu in a very unique and creative manner. Hats off to you, sir.
‘Punjabi Makhani’ Pizza and a ‘Bombay Bhaji’ Pizza too, if you’re in a mood for something creative yet delicious and Indian of course.

Pizzas Pizzas and Pizzas

More Pizzas

Traditionally Pizza goes well with either Wine or Beer. But not in this case, World Pizza Journey (WPJ) has an extensive drinks menu. Apart from the usual offerings of Wines and other drinks from around the world, there’s a lengthy section on Cocktails designed and mixed by the very professional Viju Raj.The bartender made us try the Heera Panna, Khus Madira, Patiala Iced tea, Chicago orange brandy and Lichi Mai Tai to name a few…..The menu has a clearly defined and listed cocktails selection matching with a specific pizzas, one can just go as per that or order as per own choice.
To break the monotony of pizzas we also ordered the salads and soup. We loved the minestrone soup served with crusty garlic bread. The Caesar salad and the raw papaya salads were awesome even the Mexican corn salad with nachos was really good. We loved the Thearo Mushroom dish in the Verdure section of the menu and yes if you like pork sausages then please order the Bangar and Mash, awesome preparation.

Awesome Cocktails

Side Dishes and Salads

At WPJ they make fresh dough daily to make pizzas with the fresh ingredients like tomatoes, onion, bell peppers, jalapenos, capers, pepperoni, olives, fish, chicken, sausage, bacon and much more. I must admit to the fact that they are doing something different with passion towards it . The small side dishes are done as perfectly as they have done their mainline of Pizzas……Pricing is very smart and not over the top. We would highly recommend this place for all the people who like their pizzas and related nibbles prepared fresh with the most sought after ingredients………..

We wish WPJ to carry on this unending journey of serving us the best and the freshest food forever……….Cheers !!!

Bridal Makeup/Party makeup by makeup artist- Megha Puri

A party should have a woman present herself in a unique and special way. Surely, everything needs to be perfect. Makeup expert Megha Puri gives us some pointers on fine art of makeup.

Eyes: You want to dazzle and hence your eyes become the fulcrum of the entire bridal makeup project. The colour of your foundation, the hue of the kohl and the liner make for eyes that glow and reflect your glad heart. Blue, black, maroon, gold and emerald are popular choices for eye shadow and this should match with your overall look.

Lips: Wear a lip blush and nude shades if you have gone heavy on eye makeup. For bridesmaids and friends, a light blush and silken lip colour go very well.

Hair: The hair makeup must also be unique but not overwhelming. Go easy on curlers and straightening irons. Keep it relaxed and moistened for a soft look. Match it with the facial makeup and the trousseau. You can use rhinestones, hair jewellery and accessories to upscale the glam quotient.

Make-up kit tips by Megha Puri

Wash your brushes- Brushes are prime breeding ground for bacteria. If you wash your face regularly, makeup residue from applying makeup ends up on your brushes. You don’t need to wash them daily but once per week put all your brushes in a large jar or glass and fill it with water. Add 1 tsp. of baby shampoo, give it a good stir and let the brushes sit all day in the jar. Then rinse them off and dry them really well with a towel to make sure to get most of the water out. Leave them laying on a paper towel or napkin overnight to finish drying. This keeps your face from breaking out and keeps your makeup brushes lasting longer.

Wash your make up containers: Your makeup can flake off colored dust particles onto other products, creating a dirty look to your containers. Not only is this unsanitary but also messy. Once a month, wipe off all your makeup containers on the outside with a hot rag soaked in dish liquid or baby shampoo. Dry them off and they’re like new.

Replace mascara every 3 months: Mascara is one of the quickest products to dry out and it is one of the worst for breeding bacteria. Replace your mascara once every three months. Remember to stick with waterproof if you’re worried about smudges.

Update often: Go through your kit once every 6 months. Get rid of the stuff which needs to be changed or is not durable. Along with updating be sure you have colors that fit in with the season.

Keep them dry: Make sure you keep your make up kit dry. Moisture kills make up. Also keep them away from light and heat which can cause serious damage.

Vault Cafe food review

There was a time during my school days at Modern Barakhamba, especially during high school, that Connaught Place would be theplace to hangout. After school hours was mandatory but then bunking and being there added to the marks of the place on another dimension. The chholebhature of Kwality, the cheese sandwich of United Coffee House, the momos of DePauls, the butterscotch shake of Kaventers and the black forest pastry of Wengers were our staple diet much to the chagrin of our mothers. But it’s been a while since one ventured back there, as Connaught Place began losing out to the mall culture and then development work that began during the CWG was not finished till late last year.

All that is suddenly changing thanks to the array of new chic eateries, bars and cafe’s that are opening here. After years of being outclassed by the youngster havens like HauzKhasVillage and KhanMarket, Connaught Place is again becoming a happening place to be. New initiatives like free wifi, better parking facilities and the huge national flag at the centre situated in Central Park adds to this landmark destination.

I recently went to review the newly opened “Vault Café” well located in the f/n block area bang opposite PallikaBazaar. On my way, I checked with a few friends about the place, and most of them had heard about it as the next happening thing and it was also on their wish list. I was excited that I was the first to go there and experience it before they did. After climbing the lovely winding stairs to the second floor where vault café is located, I noticed a vault door.

It was like love at first sight. Or actually, love at first order. It was just amazing and impressive to see the way the interiors have been done. The theme was very well suited and the name of the place was apt. It was actually full of wicked dark private dining rooms having leather sofas and fake wine cellars. The place has indoor and outdoor seating and also private seating for a group of friends or family to hang out and enjoy a private get together. The iron pillars and the huge bar loungewith great seating capacity gave a colonial feel.

The whole place is dimly lit, in tones of red, with walls sportinga brick look. What I liked about the place most was smaller seating areas for individual groups along the side, with entrances as if they lead to a tunnel.

The place was packed which was great considering it was a Wednesday afternoon and chilly so only the adventurous few were sitting outside and you could see the national flag from the terrace.

I was privileged to visit the place with my blogger friends from The writers Collective of India. We ended up sitting at one of the private vault rooms and Vicky ensured that we got to taste mostly all of the wide variety of items that were in the menu. The menu was itself a challenge. When I was going through the menu, I felt that it wasn’t possible that they could actually keep such a global menu and do justice to it.

The menu boasted of a great breakfast menu, National dishes of many countries, Street foods,Continental, Oriental, Mediterranean, Indian and Italian cuisines, north and south American cuisines. I heard that they also have a Sunday brunch.

We started from the appetizers and tasted cocktails prepared by Mohit, a mixologist who has had a great experience working in leading hotels. It was great to see his creativity at play. He served Tropical Thunder, Manhattan,Lavender Cosmo, Old Fashion, Vault no. 1857 and Long Island Iced Tea to name a few.The mixing was very innovative and I liked the use of dry ice.

The starters were mouth watering to say the least. The Mushroom Galauti kebab, veg platter, chicken momos, fish tikka, keemapao were a delight. If one was to come with a group of friends who had different choices in cuisines then this was the perfect place to enjoy a few drinks with great starters over friendly banter.

The main course was equally extensive and we ordered Pork chops with apple chutney and brown sauce, chicken cordon bleu, sizzling periperi chicken, and humus with pita. Each dish was very well presented as can be seen in the photographs. I was amazed with the size of the serving and the quality of the food.

Desserts like the Tiramisu, brownie with ice cream and many others were available for those with sweet tooth.

In the end, we ended up on the terrace enjoying the chilly wednesday afternoon with a cup of green tea and chatting with one of the owner , Umang Tewari who gave us a very patient hearing. While chatting we could see that he was very passionate about what he was doing.

There was attention to detail and the corporate chef Harman Singh has made sure that utmost care is taken and justice is done to each cuisine in the menu. It’s a concept that not many restaurateurs will dare to try out. This is one area where stand alone restaurants are one notch higher than leading hotel chains. Vault Cafe is a great addition to the café’s in the area and we hear that it’s already packed most days of the week. With Connaught place gaining its sheen back this could be the next great hangout for people of all ages. (Pictures courtesy- Vickrham Vicky)
